Directed and Produced “KAYLA”, a short film written by and featuring Leigh-Anne Gilbert, who John met while teaching at East 15 Acting School. Best Short Film at St Albans Film Festival 2018.
Directed 35 episodes to date of Eastenders for BBC1 between 2003 & 2018.
John was lead Director on the opening 5 episodes of the fifth series of Wolfblood for CBBC/ZDF after directing the final 4 episodes of series four in 2015/16. Shot on location in Northumberland.
Completed the short film The Day After Stonewall Died in early 2014 which won Best Short Film at The Cannes Short Film festival 2014. Set in East Tennessee and written by Anthony Sims.
He recently wrote and Directed short film Red Source, with cinematographer Kate Reid and Producer Faye-Anne Wilkinson. The film was shortlisted and premiered at the Small Axe radical film awards 2014.
John was the motion capture & voice director on the latest James Bond Video game 007 Legends with Eurocom, for Activision. He was principal character designer and director on a radical game project Milo & Kate with Lionhead Studios, directing motion capture shoots, animation and voice performances. He also directed the drama sequences for all 8 episodes of the interactive web based drama Signs of Life, an astrological thriller, with Endemol, for the BBC.
John’s short films include Electric Frank (view here) which appeared in 25 film festivals worldwide, winning several awards including a “young Leopard of tomorrow” at Locarno, First Communion Day (view here), which was the winner of the BBC Dennis Potter award for new writing & The Secret Songs of Butterfish, which won 3 awards including a Gold Plaque at the Chicago Film Festival.
John has worked extensively in Television, directing episodes of Eastenders and Casualty for BBC1, The Bill for ITV, the entire second series of Home farm Twins and episodes of Grange Hill for CBBC, among others. He was also instrumental in setting up the pilot for Ethiopia’s first ever soap series Mereb as Exec Producer and mentor.
John attended The Northern Film School, Leeds UK, The Polish National Film School, Lodz & Goldsmith’s College, London.
